Our
Story

Get to Know Us

In 2020, during a school project, founders Mahita Desaraju and Samhita Desaraju uncovered a truth that changed everything: educational inequality wasn’t just a statistic—it was a lived reality for many students in their own state. What began as a classroom discovery soon grew into a mission to advocate for equity in education.

Fueled by a shared vision and a desire to act, they launched the North Carolina Science Education Program (NCSEP)—a nonprofit that blends their personal passions with the urgent need for advocacy. From organizing resource drives to developing student-focused programs, NCSEP became a platform for real change.

The experience didn’t just spark a movement—it shaped the leaders behind it. Mahita went on to become a vocal advocate for women’s rights, even standing against gender-based violence on the steps of Washington, D.C.

Samhita continues to lead NCSEP with tireless commitment, carrying the momentum forward and championing change across communities.

Together, they transformed a school assignment into a platform inspiring reform beyond local borders —proof that youth-led action can rewrite the future.
